Swix athletes Valaas, Strandberg and Zimmerman win at Nordic openers

Swix Sport USA is proud to announce the opening success of the Nordic racing season. With our top World Cup athletes, Kikkan Randall, Kris Freeman, Andy Newell, Lars Flora and Chris Cook competing in Europe with renewed success, Swix had convincing results with both our wax and our pole line at the opening Super Tour events in West Yellowstone, Montana. Congratulations Kris on your return to good form, we look forward to great results in the future!

In West Yellowstone, Swix Star poles were used by 14 out of the 20 podium winners over the Thanksgiving weekend. Of special note, Swix USA welcomes Laura Valaas back on Swix poles. Laura joins fellow athletes Kikkan Randall, Taz Mannix, Kristina Strandberg, Lindsay Williams and Lindsey Weier-Dehlin as headliners for Swix. Clearly, Swix is the choice amongst the majority of the top men & women in the USA. On the men’s side it was fantastic to see Leif Zimmerman come back from a year of patience recovering from illness to win the distance race.

Notable Swix waxing highlights from the SuperTour:

• Swix program Alaska Pacific University led by Erik Flora and Holly Brooks scoring 5 women in the top 12 in the classic distance race, including Laura Valaas placing first in the Sprint and second in the 10km.
• Salomon Factory Team’s Kristina Strandberg wins using Swix LF3 glide wax and VR30 hardwax and Swix poles. Great job to wax techs Kevin Johnson and newcomer Fabian!
• Salomon Factory Team newcomer Michael Sinnott scores two top 5 results using Swix wax and poles.
• Lindsay Williams nails two top five results!
• Bryan Cook scores perhaps his best SuperTour result.
• Nice job Utes, especially with the depth of your women’s results in the Sprint. Wow!
• Swix HF4BD and HF6BD glide wax covered by the infamous Swix Cera FC1 Turbo worked fantastic in the colder, dirty conditions on both the sprint and classic days. How many times have we seen FC1 Turbo be the race wax in West!

From a technical perspective, glide waxing was very straight forward by applying Swix MB77 base layer, HFBD4 or HFBD6 glide wax depending upon start time, and then finishing with an ironed and brushed layer of Swix FC1 Turbo. The BD definitely runs in these conditions as it works as a lubricant and a repellent of dirt. Our partner team, Salomon Factory Team also had excellent success running LF3 as the final racing top coat. LF3 is very durable thus this result came as no surprise.

Kick waxing was very straight forward: Swix VG35 Base covered by Swix VR30 and some ran VR40 and VR45 as the tracks became skied in and athletes were using stiffer hardwax skis.

One thing that was enjoyable about the opening SuperTour is that Swix has started right up where we left off last Spring. We have great athletes, coaches and programs that trust our products. We are having great results with our best skiers overseas and we are super excited with the progress of our athletes, programs and coaches here in the U.S.
