Last Minute Chance for April Races and Tours in Sweden!

This comes under the heading of “Last Minute Opportunities”! Burke Mountain Academy has received an invitation to compete in a race weekend in Sweden and has arranged for accommodations, and some great touring and training. Dates are April 4th through April 18th, so if you have interest we need to act fast. This trip will be small and is geared to J1/OJ, and PG skiers who may have vacation time in this period. We see it as a training opportunity for athletes who may want to work with Burke’s development program next year, and for skiers who work in the summer and want to squeeze in a special training trip at the end of the season. There are openings for seven athletes. Ground cost is $2100.

The trip will depart from the East Coast and fly into Stockholm with a connection on to Ostersund.

From Ostersund we will drive north to Storuman for a 10 K mass start Free local race on the 6th. We will go back to Ostersund and on to Jaerpen to visit the Ski Gymansium there. On the 8th we travel down to Funasdalen where we are booked in the Hotell Funasdalen. The touring there is amazing with almost 300 km of groomed trails. On the 12th and 13th the Fjalltopp Helgen (Mountaintop Weekend) races take place in Bruksvallarna. The race on the 12th is a FIS race, 22 km free in its longest configuration. Sunday’s race is the Knallcrossen, a twisting ski-cross sprint with qualification decided by an earlier down hill (complete with helmet) run from the top of the mountain.

After the Fjalltopp weekend we’ll take a one day breather, then finish the trip with a couple of long tours, and a visit to the University in Ostersund. Many of Sweden’s top skiers are studying there and the school is responsible for much recent technique and physiological research relating to cross-country skiing.

No doubt this is short notice. If we can get the group together it will be a great trip. Call ASAP if you have interest. We will make a “GO” or “No Go” decision on the 6th of March.
