Over 300 competitors took part in the 2008 Rangeley Loppet. With over 15 feet of snowfall this year, trail coverage was not a problem – in fact, the race start was delayed an hour due to yet another winter storm that dumped snow Friday night and into the race the next morning.

University of Vermont assistant coach and two-time Olympian, Patrick Weaver, won the men's 50km freestyle in a time of 2:31:03. Second place went to Rossignol's Eli Enman, 2:25 back. The final podium spot went to Forrest Horton of Bowdoin College, who crossed the line 30 seconds in back of Enman.

In the women's race Hannah Dreissigacker of Dartmouth College skied away with the top position. Her time of 3:05:07 was a full ten minutes ahead of second place finisher Linea Rooke of Colby College. Kathleen Maynard was third.

In addition to the 50km freestyle, a 50km classic event, a 25km freestyle, and a 25 km tour were held.
