The second annual roller ski race around the Delaney Park Strip in downtown Anchorage was
held on Saturday, June 7, 2008. Traffic was closed for the ROLL FOR THE WAVES, a skate-technique
team sprint relay. The relatively small but highly competitive field (9 women teams and 11 men
teams) included holders of 13 of the individual medals awarded at the 2008 Junior Olympics (plus 12
relay medals).

In the women's race, the top three teams were Greta Anderson and Amy Glen in first,
Rachelle Kanady and Caitlin Patterson in second, and Fiona Worcester and Esther Kennedy in third,
all of Alaska Winter Stars.

The men's race was won by the team of Tyler Kornfield and Eric Packer, followed by their Alaska Winter Stars teammates Cole Talbot and Andrew Dougherty, with the team of Erin Phillips and Don Haering of APUNSC coming in third.

Because the race was part of the Alaska Oceans Festival, there were many spectators on hand to watch and cheer and racers could enjoy the band music in between their relay legs. The race was co-hosted by Alaska Center for the Environment and Alaska Winter Stars and is part of the summer roller ski race series.
