The University of Maine at Presque Isle has been recognized by NCAA as a regular member. After several years on the waiting list UMPI is in the game now! The message from the northeast corner of New England is that the university wants to help student-athletes reach the highest level both academically and athletically.
The existing men's and women's cross country ski team have not been sleeping during the waiting period, and in last four years have achieved twelve medals from USCSA championships. The team simultaneously competes in NCAA Division 1 in the EISA conference and is working hard on meeting the standards of that level. Last year UMPI hired head coach Petr Jakl, who brought over 20 years of international coaching experience from Europe and North America. Jakl is also involved in developing the Cross Country Ski Coaching major at UMPI.
