Whistler Nor-Ams Moved to Sovereign Lake

The Nor-AM events scheduled for the Whistler Olympic Park have been moved to Sovereign Lake due to poor snow conditions. There have also been several changes to the race schedule.

Cross-Country Canada reports:

Callaghan Valley NorAms for Dec 12-14, 2008 have been canceled and relocated to Sovereign Lake.

A decision by the CV NorAm Race Jury was taken this Sunday morning to cancel the event in CV and move it to Sovereign Lake under a revised schedule. This was a difficult decision for the CV-OC due to its hopes to use this series of races to test themselves for the January World Cups. The current poor snow conditions at Whistler Olympic Park and with only a forecast that could bring significant snow by Thursday night at the earliest, led to this decision.

After closer consideration of the logistics required for the 3 day NorAm scheduled this coming week at Sovereign Lake Nordic Ski Centre and in anticipation colder weather conditions on the weekend, the Organizing Committee has revised the race schedule to enable all races to be held at the Sovereign Lake Ski Centre. As of Tuesday, December 9, the revised race schedule now includes:

Thursday, December 11 Mass Start 15 & 20km Free Technique
Friday, December 12 Teck Sprint 1.1 km Classic Technique
Saturday, December 13 Interval Start 10 & 15 km Classic Technique (note Night Race to start at 17:30)

The night race at Sovereign Lake will be a unique experience. Spectators are encourage to join the racers and help celebrate the coming holiday season with the Festival of Lights presentation and the performances of some of North America’s top Nordic athletes.

Please refer to the attached Updated Race Notice for times and locations for Team Captain’s Meetings, bib pick-up etc. All coaches are reminded that the stadium set-up will begin at 9:00 am on Wednesday morning. Official Training on Wednesday will begin at 10:00 am.
