FasterSkier to Launch New Site

FasterSkierJanuary 10, 2009

FasterSkier has been working hard over the last year to develop and build a new website. The main goal was to create a site that would allow for more flexibility and features moving forward. It also allows us to freshen up the look and move to a wider format.

The plan is to launch the a “Beta” version of the site as early as this afternoon. Why “beta?” We can test the site to our little hearts’ content, but we can’t replicate every user’s experience. We also cannot simulate the effect of heavy load on the site. Finally, the site is still a work in progress. We are still developing features, importing old content, etc.

While the site is considered “beta” all major features are fully functional. This includes our new store, user accounts, commenting, etc. There are no issues with security and privacy.

Here is how it will work:

When we launch, the next time you go to www.fasterskier.com you will be taken to a portal page. The portal will allow you to chose which site you want to visit – the “New” site or the “Old” site. Both sites are updated concurrently, so you can read all articles on either. Which site you visit will be remembered, and the next time you go to www.fasterskier.com, you will go directly to that site. You can switch your preference by visiting the other site using links clearly located and labeled on each version.

The portal page contains quite a number of details about the new site and the transition from the old one. Please take a few minutes to read through it and feel free to contact us with questions, comments, or concerns.
