ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Sisu Nordic Ski Foundation (SNSF), a Twin-Cities-based organization dedicated to the development, support and promotion of Nordic Skiing in Minnesota, today announced that Chad Giese has joined its roster of experienced coaches. Giese, a former National Champion, NCAA All-American and World Cup skier, will be a part-time coach with the organization, assisting all of SNSF’s various Sisu training groups.

“We’re excited and fortunate to welcome a coach with Chad’s experience to our organization,” said Ben Popp, SNSF board president and assistant program director.  “He brings invaluable training, technical and racing expertise at a world-class level.  Chad is a strong addition to our experienced coaching staff and his insight will be an asset to all Sisu skiers.”

Giese joins Popp and Mike Nightingale, both former NCAA Division 1 coaches, Ahvo Taipale, Sisu’s long-time head coach, as well as a dedicated group of coaches for each program. Tiapale founded the well-known Finn Sisu training program more than 19 years ago and has coached athletes of all levels, including Olympians. Giese was a member of Tiapale’s group in 1992 as a high school sophomore and has contributed to the group for the last 10 years.

Said Giese, “I am very excited to work with all of the programs the Sisu organization has to offer, from the Juniors and Collegiate program, up through the well-established Masters groups.  Over the years, Ahvo and the Sisu skiers were an integral part of my success.  The structure of the Sisu organization provides the perfect way for me to give back to skiers at all levels and share what I learned throughout my ski career.”
