The History of Skating

A blog post from Fairbanks Cross-Country Coach, Peter Leonard brought an extremely interesting article to our attention.  Written by Kjell Erik Kristiansen on Langde.se, this article (in English) details the evolution of skating in to the mainstream of FIS competitions.  The process took time and was quite contentious at times.  This is an excellent window into one of the most important periods for Cross-Country Skiing.

The article can be read here.

What an interesting article! Some for a change–some against–some in the middle.

It was an addition which certainly did help the sport. Now will there be an article in 25 years or so that will describe how adding sprinting to the sport caused a great controversy? This was another change which has added a lot of excitement to cross country.

Thanks to all those who are looking to make a great sport even better.

I always thought Gunde Svan had a lot to do with it.
