West Yellowstone, Montana – The US SuperTour kicks off tomorrow with the Wild West Sprint Showdown on the famed Rendezvous Trail system in West Yellowstone.

Conditions are excellent with over a foot of snow, and a strong field is expected.  Both the Canadian and US B Teams are in town, as are most of the top national caliber skiers from both countries.  With Olympic berths on the line, Continental Cup races in both the US and Canada hold extra importance this season.

The classic race is approximately 1.5km, and is point to point on the Volunteer trail.  This relatively narrow, windy trail features several sharp downhill corners transitioning into climbs.  The course will be accessible to foot traffic for spectating.

This event is the first USSA sprint qualifier only race.  Skiers will start at 15-second intervals and race the course once.  There will be no heats.

$250 will be awarded to the fastest man and fastest woman in the race.

Temperatures are expected to start in the 20’s but rise up above freezing, potentially making for difficult waxing.
