Liebsch Excited About the Next Month of Racing

FasterSkierJanuary 24, 2010

CXC Team Vertical Limit skier Matt Liebsch was able to take a few minutes between his racing and putting his kids down for bed to answer a few questions for the FasterSkier audience after winning yesterdays SuperTour in Minnesota.

It sounds like the conditions were pretty sloppy out there with all of the warm and wet weather.  Can you tell us a bit about the conditions; how did the weather effect things, how the trails held up, etc?

The weather was interesting. However, I was amazed by how well the trail held up. The flat sections were firm, but the up hills were a little soft. I really want to thank the City of Lakes Loppet Foundation for putting on an amazing race and ALL the volunteers and race officials who helped get the course it tip top shape.

Were you fired up out there racing back home in the midwest?
I was very excited to race at Thedore Wirth Park. It is close to my home and I train there often. I give my best at every race I do and today was no different. I had a lot of family and friends out there cheering today. It was the first Super Tour I have been to this season that my wife and kids could come watch. It is always a good race day when you have your teamates/friends are on the podium with you!

What are your goals for the Canmore WC?  For the rest of the season?

I am excited to go race at Canmore! I will be racing the 15K skate and I am really focusing on this doing well in this race. I have been building volume and working on my hill climbing.

What does your schedule look like for the rest of the winter?
I have the Telemark SuperTours next weekend, the Mora Vasaloppet, Madison Sprints and the Birkie, I’ll have to see how I feel after that!
