The National Cross-Country Ski Education Foundation has pledged to fund all U.S. athletes who represent the country at the 2011 World Nordic Ski Championships and whose expenses are not funded by the U.S. Ski Team.
Dave Knoop, NCCSEF director, stated that “the World Championships are the premier nordic competition outside of the Olympics. We wanted to make sure each athlete who qualifies for the Championships could focus on their preparation for the games, and not worry about covering the cost for this trip.”
The World Nordic Ski Championships will take place in Oslo, Norway from February 23 to March 7, 2011. For more information, visit www.oslo2011.no/en/

Can someone explain why we are having to do fundraising to send our qualified athletes to the world championships? C’mon people, this isn’t Junior Nationals. Why should American athletes have to worry about how their trips are funded? Thank God for the NCCSEF but why is this necessary? Also, while we’re on the subject, why are we telling athletes, “Congratulations, you’ve qualified for some World Cup Racing. Oh, and by the way, you don’t get any coaching or tech support. Good luck.” That doesn’t seem like it’s in the true channel of development. What’s going on? Is this done in the Alpine arena too?
