Different day, different distance and different technique, but the results were the same. CXC Elite teammates Caitlin Compton and Garrott Kuzzy won the 10/15km classic mass start events on the second day of the SuperTour Mayor’s Cup.

The duo also took top honors in Saturday’s 5/10km freestyle race.

Compton skied to a solid 20 second victory over UAF’s Raphaela Sieber in the women’s race. The weekend was also a CCSA collegiate event and midwest junior olympic qualifier.

The 25-year-old Sieber, a native of Germany, won the college race while improving upon her third place in the 5k.

Christina Turman (NMU) placed fourth overall and second in the college race, and another UAF skier, Theresia Schnurr rounded out the podium with a sixth in the overall

Kristina Owen placed fifth on the day and after that it was all about the collegiate skiers – they took the next 12 spots.

Kuzzy Best Again

The fight for second came down to final meters with five skiers in contention. Just 1.8 seconds separated second and sixth places.

CXC men again dominated the top of the results sheet. In addition to Kuzzy and Nygren, Bryan Cook was fourth, Santi Ocariz sixth and Matt Liebsh seventh.

Mike Sinnott (SVSEF) placed fifth.
