Canmore, Alberta – For a second year in a row, Canmore will be the stage for Fast and Female’s Sports Day in Canada for Women celebration. Set for Saturday September 17, 2011 at the Canmore Collegiate High School and held in conjunction with CBC’s Sports Day in Canada, the fundraising event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and feature dancing, fitness stations, yoga and inspiration for women of all abilities between the ages of 5 to 99 years old.

“Most of the Fast and Female programming targets young women on their journey to athletic excellence,” said Marie-Hélène Thibeault, Executive Director for the program. “CBC’s Sports Day in Canada is a great opportunity for our growing organization to reach a broader audience of moms and women as we strive to increase awareness for our programs as well as spread the values of wellness we cherish.”

Throughout the morning, participants will have the opportunity to make new friends, try new sports, push their limits and even be inspired – while also supporting Fast and Female and its growing programming. Adult participants will get to kick off the morning with a dance segment, followed by an activity of their choice and concluding with a relaxing yoga session. Fitness activities available that morning include alpine skiing fitness, mountain biking, running, cross-country skiing fitness, introduction to biathlon, low impact health walk and event bootcamp/cross fitness stations.

“Given the broad scope of fitness stations available, this event is definitively accessible to everyone’s abilities and interests,” added Thibeault. “Fitness station will be led by enthusiastic and proficient ambassadors, ranging from local fitness instructors to current and past world-class athletes. Needless to say, women won’t want to miss this great event!”

Founded in 2005, Fast and Female is a non-profit organization dedicated to the empowerment through sport of young women. By partnering with inspiring female Olympians, Fast and Female travels across North-America to host day camps for girls ages 9 to 19. Since its inception, Fast and Female has reached out to girls involved in cross-country skiing and biathlon. In the medium to long term, the foundation intends to expand its reach by partnering with ambassadors involved in complimentary summer endurance sports and building on to all Olympic sports.

In 2010, more than 100 women took part in Fast and Female’s inaugural Sports Day in Canada event. The 2011 edition of the Fast and Female Sports Day in Canada for Women hopes to exceede that number.

All proceeds from the event will do directly towards supporting Fast and Female’s ambitious plans for 2012 including reaching more than 1,400 girls ages 9 to 19 all across Canada and the United States.

Registration for girls 5 to 8 years old is $5, young women ages 9 to 14 can join the event at a cost of $15 and adult participants can secure a spot at a rate of $20. All participants will receive a goody bag with product samples from Fast and Female’s partners.

Participants can register by visiting: http://fastandfemalesept17.eventbrite.com/.

Online registration closes on September 15, 2011 at noon.
