Maine Winter Sports Center Needs You to Secure Future Funding

Donations between now and April 30th will be matched by private donor

Maine Winter Sports Center has been making a difference in the health and economy of Maine for over 15 years. Our programs provide skis, snowshoes, kayaks, canoes, bikes and outdoor equipment to thousands of children across Maine.  It has offered outdoor education and leadership training to hundreds of community volunteers.  Its competition programs have introduced long-term athletic development and goal setting to hundreds of young athletes, developed more than a dozen Olympic team members, and helped to send hundreds of NCAA student athletes to the colleges of their choice

We have also been making a difference in northern and western Maine’s economy for 15 years. Our biathlon events are regularly bringing the world to Aroostook County, with each event creating between $5M and $10M in economic impact to some of Maine’s most remote and economically isolated communities. Our facilities and those events have supported private sector investments in new hotels, restaurants and shops and have created over 100 jobs in the Presque Isle region alone.

In spite of our success and the impact we have had in our 15 years, we were informed this winter our funding will end on April 30th of this year. We have been aggressively pursuing new funding to continue operations ever since.

Thanks to the tremendous generosity of Mary Barton Smith, the Maine Winter Sports Center now has the opportunity to secure a future for these programs.  By offering a $400,000 matching grant, Mrs. Smith has offered you a chance to double any contribution you make to MWSC by April 30, 2014.  Meeting this matching challenge is vital to the continued programming at the MWSC.   Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today.
