In his very first senior national championships, Edvin Anger pulled off a series of impressive performances.

In the sprint race at the 2022 Swedish national championships, Anger won the qualifier and every subsequent heat before winning the final by four seconds. He thereby became the first ever junior racer to win a national championship title in the men’s category.

Next, the national sprint champion capped his first senior national championships with another gold medal, securing the relay victory for his club team Åsarna IK in a fierce sprint finish. Additionally, Anger took home two top-10 finishes in the 15-kilometer and the 50-kilometer events. Combined, these performances make Anger a worthy recipient of the 2022 Sixten Jernberg Award.

Anger is honored to earn the award.

“There are so many big names in Swedish cross-country skiing who have received the Sixten Jernberg Award over the years. To earn the award this early in my career feels really big and is a huge honor,” Anger said at the award ceremony.

The Sixten Jernberg Award was established in 1965, the year after the legendary Swedish cross-country skier retired. The award, which can only be earned once in an athlete’s career, is given to “the skier who at the senior national championships has displayed some of the ambition, toughness, resolve, perceverance, courage and fighting spirit that characterized Sixten Jernberg and led him to the biggest victories.”
