Position Title: Nordic Competitive (Comp) Coach

Reports To: Nordic Director

Job Objective:

AVSC Nordic Program seeks a full-time Competitive (Comp) Team Coach to join our dynamic team. The Comp Team Coach will report to the Nordic Program Director and work closely with the AVSC Nordic community.  Our mission is to provide all youth in the greater Roaring Fork Valley the opportunity to excel as athletes and as people through winter sports. AVSC is the oldest and largest youth non-profit in the valley, and we have been teaching children and teens winter sports for over 86 years.

Scope:

As a Comp Team Coach, you will be responsible for daily Comp Team training, working with the Nordic Director to implement program design, technical progressions, and AVSC methodology effectively. You will also assist in hosting top-quality events, traveling to RMN, select regional and National races. Additionally, you will manage away race sign-up and promote and support AVSC special events, fundraisers, and races. The ideal candidate must be able to speak from the heart and the head when articulating AVSC’s mission and priorities. This position is expected to work some nights, weekends, and holidays.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coaching Duties
    • Day-to-day Comp team training
    • Work with the program director to effectively implement program design, technical progressions, and AVSC methodology
    • Assist with set up and tear down of training and race venues
    • Competition
      • Assist in hosting top-quality events
      • Travel to RMN, and select regional and National races
    • Participate in venue development meetings, take notes, and complete specific venue-related tasks as they arise
    • Manage away race sign-up
    • Promote AVSC special events and fundraisers
    • Assist in AVSC Nordic Fundraisers, special events, and races including, but not limited to:
      • Bonfire Dinner
      • Nordic Fest/ RMISA/ Owl Creek
      • BK Race Series
    • Trip planning, booking, and reconciliation
    • Participate in designated staff meetings and training sessions
    • Assist with and participate in Club-wide functions
    • Assist with Nordic participant recruitment and community development ideas
    • Credit card reconciliation monthly
    • Ensure news and results are submitted to the Communications Director promptly
      • Results from the weekend are due to the Communications Director within 48 hours of the event’s conclusion
    • Special projects as assigned

Skills:

  • Background screened and cleared for interaction with youth
  • US Ski and Snowboard Coaches License
  • Full endorsement of AVSC Core Values – Commitment, Teamwork, and Integrity
  • Competence with basic computer applications, including MS Office, Google Calendars, Outlook, and website applications
  • General understanding of competitive ski racing logistics
  • Communication skills – written and oral – personable and well-spoken
  • Enthusiastic, conscientious, and respectful
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry objects 50-75 pounds
  • Must be able and willing to work in inclement weather

Compensation:

Full-time year-round. Annual compensation between $55,000-$65,000, based on experience. Benefits include a retirement plan with a 5% match; Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance; Paid Time Off; Long and Short-Term Disability; Maternity Leave; Paid Sick Leave; Paid Holidays; Ski Pass.
