UNH Seeks Ski Director & Head Coach

Administer a Division I Alpine and Nordic Ski program consistent with the policies of the University of New Hampshire, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA), and other appropriate organizations or governing bodies.

The Director of Men’s and Women’s Alpine and Nordic Ski will lead all aspects of a highly competitive Division I Ski program and will be responsible for facilitating the academic, athletic, and overall growth of every ski student-athlete consistent with the Department of Athletics goals of providing an outstanding student-athlete experience. Additionally, this individual will work closely with the Ski Sport Administrator and Director of Athletics to continually assess and elevate the program’s status in the areas of academics, recruiting, staffing, budget tracking and reporting, equipment ordering, marketing/public relations, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, NCAA and conference rules compliance, alumni engagement, and fundraising.

Manage all aspects of an intercollegiate ski program and oversee either the Alpine or Nordic program, which includes coaching, race day equipment prep, recruitment of prospective student-athletes, monitoring of student-athletes’ academic progress, compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules, alumni relations, fundraising, and supervision of assistant coaches.

Acceptable minimum level of education:  Bachelor’s

Acceptable minimum years of experience:  5-7 years

Other minimum qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and policies
  • Experience coaching Alpine or Nordic skiing and recruiting strong classes of student-athletes
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and promote an inclusive work environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with prospective student-athletes, current student-athletes, staff, University personnel, parents, and supporters
  • Strong organizational skills to manage and lead a Division I Ski program

Other minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of successful coaching experience, preferably with a collegiate program

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and direct all activities involved or associated with a Division I Ski program.
  • Plan and administer all practice and contest related activities.
  • Hire and supervise full-time assistant coaches and support staff, with responsibility for their performance, professional growth, and compliance with University, NCAA, and Association policies and rules.
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes of character who can develop and thrive academically and athletically at the University of New Hampshire.
  • Develop and monitor the academic progress of students through GPAs, graduation rates, and APR scores.
  • Work with strength and conditioning staff to develop a program suitable for specific discipline.
  • Work alongside Athletic Trainers and other trained/licensed professionals to ensure the physical health, safety, and mental well-being of student-athletes. Process financial aid recommendations as appropriate for the ski program. Monitor the admission process for incoming student-athletes with the Office of Admissions liaison.
  • Purchase and coordinate equipment along with assigned Equipment Manager.
  • Develop, track, manage, and be fiscally responsible for the sport budget, including fundraising and gift funds.
  • Represent the Ski program to outside constituencies (media, civic groups, alumni, donors, campus departments, student groups, etc.).
  • Assist in the identification of career outreach opportunities for student-athletes. Engage the Wildcat Ski alumni and supporters locally and across the country through a systematic communication process along with the help of the Sports Administrator and Athletics Development staff.
  • Participate in friend- and fundraising activities as requested by the Director of Athletics and/or Athletics Development staff.
  • Conduct the ski program in accordance with all NCAA and Association rules, including attendance at compliance meetings, appropriate record keeping for recruiting and playing/practice seasons, monitoring eligibility of student-athletes in the program, and assisting in the education of student-athletes about NCAA and conference rules.
  • Participate in departmental activities, including service on committees and attendance at all required meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Athletics Administration.
  • Coach will represent the University on the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character.
  • Coach must respect the rights and dignity of each student-athlete.
  • Coach also must display sensitivity to diversity issues and shall work to create an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Coach will be an ambassador for UNH Athletics and build strong relationships with institutional colleagues and the state’s populace.
