Who We Are:
The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) provides sports and youth development programming for over 1,200 athletes in Steamboat Springs. SSWSC believes in the fundamental value of sport for the individual. Our mission is to create champions on and off the mountain by developing life skills and personal growth through sports. Our vision is to be the nation’s model community youth sports organization, inspiring every individual to achieve their highest level of personal and athletic potential. SSWSC alumni have become Olympians, NCAA champions, collegiate scholars, CEOs, and leaders. Our programs include alpine, cross country, freestyle, freeskiing, nordic combined, jumping, snowboarding, backcountry education, strength and conditioning, cycling, and skateboarding. Founded in 1914, SSWSC is one of North America’s oldest and most successful winter sports clubs, serving tens of thousands of athletes for over a century, including 100 Olympians with 19 Olympic medals. U.S. Ski & Snowboard has named SSWSC Club of the Year five times, more than any other club in the country.
SSWSC Cross Country Program:
The SSWSC cross country program has a rich legacy of competitive excellence at the national and international levels, placing three athletes on the U.S. Ski Team and eleven athletes on NCAA collegiate teams in the last five years. More than 200 young skiers participate in crosscountry programs through SSWSC each year.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge, experience, and current credentials in cross-country skiing and competitive programming. They will also have at least five years of previous coaching experience at the youth, junior, or senior level cross-country program, strong technical knowledge, and be well respected in the industry. Program management experience and experience in a youth sports organization are preferred.
Job Responsibilities:
SSWSC is looking for a full-time year-round Cross Country Program Director who is in alignment with the SSWSC philosophy and responsible for all aspects of the cross country program including designing and implementing programming, communication with parents and the broader community, hiring, training and retaining a quality coaching staff while fostering a positive working environment, budgeting, overseeing the overall pipeline of the program, and planning and hosting cross country events. It is also expected that the director will serve as assistant or head coach for one of the cross country program groups, depending on program needs.
