Lots of races going on as the ski season kicks into gear. World Cup, Nor Ams, and more.
The World Cup travels to Kuusamo, Finland with an individual classic race on Friday and Pursuit (Skiathalon) on Sunday. Look for Carl Swenson and Kris Freeman to move up in the ranking from their first races of the season last weekend.
The biggest story in Kuusamo was to be the return of Mika Myllyla and Jari Isometsa after two year bans for doping at the 2001 World Championships. However, skitime.it is reporting that Myllyla is now injured and will not participate.
Per Elofsson, who finished a disappointing 50th in last weekend's World Cup opener is not participating this weekend. Opting instead to focus on training in hopes of being in better shape in a few weeks.

This year the NorAm circuit has been divided in two. USSA is sponsoring the NorAm SuperTour in the US, while Cross Country Canada has its own NorAm Canadian Cup. This weekend we will see the first effects of that split as the the two race series take place at different venues. The Canadian Cup kicks off on Thursday with a 15/10 km classic at Silver Star, BC. and will have a sprint on Friday and Pursuit on Sunday. Look for most of Canada's top skiers to participate in those races.
The SuperTour makes its second stop of the year in West Yellowstone. Skiers there will have a 15/10 km classic race on Friday and a sprint on Saturday. Most of the top Americans will be there, with the exception of Freeman and Swenson.
