Spring Series wrapped up at Snow Mountain Ranch this weekend with an individual start skate race and the National Championship sprint relay.
In Saturday's skate race, the two overall leaders seized their chance to clinch the titles. Andrew Johnson put the final touches on a very impressive week by winning the 12k race by 9 seconds over Ivan Babikov. Leif Zimmerman was third. Johnson won the overall, again edging Babikov, this time by 1 minute 16 seconds in total time over the seven races. Johnson, Babikov, and Eric Meyer were the only three men to compete in all seven events. Also impressive is that, in addition to competing in all seven races, Meyer was also the Spring Series social director – always a busy job.
Rebecca Dussault knew she would have to work hard to hold off Germany's Claudia Kuenzel for the overall title. Kuenzel was only 21 seconds behind in the overall heading into Saturday's 8k race. But Dussault kept her at bay, and won the race by 21 seconds over Kuenzel to double her overall lead. Katrin Smigun was third in the race, just over a minute back. Natalie Ward finished third in the overall.
