Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of summer, but in some parts of the country it also gave us our first glimpse of winter.
The mountains near Anchorage, Alaska were white when skiers woke up on Saturday morning. Termination dust, as it is called in Alaska (signifying the termination of summer) was spread across the peaks of the Chugach Mountains.
Aspen, Colorado, which I happened to be visiting at the time, also had snow above 9,000 feet on Saturday and Sunday.
Snow in early September in the mountains is not uncommon, and usually has no bearing on the kind of winter that lies ahead. But at the very least it is a reason for skiers to start getting excited and start getting in shape!
