Our perception about cross-country skiing is being challenged by a new survey done by Norwegian Statistic Central Bureau (SSB). This shows that neither golf nor tennis is “the rich man’s sport — it’s cross country skiing, reports the Norwegian Ski Federation.
The only sport where a higher education equals larger participation is cross-country skiing. 39 percent of regular exercisers with only 8-9-years of education (high school equivalent) participate in cross country ski racing. But 69 percent of those with higher education participate in cross country ski racing, shows the recent survey.
The survey also showed that only 33 percent of those with only basic education have skied (once or more) last season. 71 percent of those with higher education have skied (once or more) in the same period.
60 percent of those living in a household with an annual income of more than $60,000 (400,000 NOK) skis once or more. If the annual household income is less than $30,000 (200,000 NOK) is the ski (once or more) participation reduced to below 30 percent.
