Madison, Wisconsin – 50` temps and overcast skies created perfect conditions for the Russian Style Ski School to hold the first XC race in Midwest 2004-2005 season this Saturday with its November Sprints event at Tyrol Basin Ski Area just west of Madison, WI.Â
An enthusiastic group of competitors and volunteers participated in the 400m sprint race on the rolling course of man-made snow. Racing consisted of an individual start qualification followed by 2 person head to head heats for each age group and an open category.

Bryan Gastonguay and Ken Statz, both UWGB team members, tied for first in the exciting final heat in the open category with a time of 49 seconds. Chris Lawn and Dirk Mason took the top two spots in 25-35, with a time of 1.00 and 1.01. Ben Neff (1.00) and Henning Von Bauer (1.03) were first and second in the 35-45 age category. Bill Rattunde placed first in the 45 above category with a time of 1.02, followed by Mike Ivey with a time of 1.03. Rachel Fanney placed first in female high school category with a time of 1.20. She was followed by Corrina Jones with a time of 1.23. Bryan Garfoot placed first in the high school male category with a time of 1.04, followed by Jeff Schacherl with a time of 1.07.

This winter, the Madnorski Cross Country Ski Club will take advantage of man-made snow at Tyrol Basin by sponsoring an early Tuesday night race series at Tyrol Nov. 20, Dec. 7 and 14. Skiers can also take part in an open ski Dec. 4,5,11 and 12.
