German Team Update

The Germans are dominating the World Cup in 2004 so far. On the men’s side it is clear that Teichmann, Sommerfeldt, Angerer, and Filbrich are the men to beat to win a World Cup race. The women also had at least one top ten result in each World Cup.

Now we have 2005 and the circuit moved to Otepaa/Estonia for the 10k/15k classics and classic sprints. Teichmann for the men and Kuenzel for the women both finished 5th. The German Team was overall pretty satisfied with a 13th for Tobias Angerer, a 14th for Andreas Schluetter, and a 17th for Rene Sommerfeldt. Viola Bauer was happy with her 13th place, but Evi Sachenbacher was a little disappointed about 24th place.

They said that a few people had been struggling with a cold and Jens Filbrich even traded his start for a warm bed to recover for the World Champs in Oberstdorf. Sommerfeldt, since the World Cup in Ramsau father of his firstborn son Tristan spent the holidays with his family at home and is relaxed, recovered, and hungry for the next World Cups.

I think we can expect a few more great results from the Germans before the World Championships in the motherland, where they will have to prove if you can dominate the field for the whole season.

Until soon, Wolf
