SALT LAKE CITY * The University of Utah men's and women's ski teams will be under the direction of Eli Brown.

The former Nordic Race Director for Fischer Sports USA will take the helm this week as the University of Utahs 10th head ski coach. He replaces Kevin Sweeney who left in September to work for Swix. “I was really starting to miss coaching. I’m psyched to be back working with the Utes!” said Brown.

Brown gained a lot of his coaching and development experience prior to his stint at Fischer Sports USA. In addition to coaching at the collegiate level, he most recently spent two seasons at the Maine Winter Sports Center in Limestone, Maine. From 2001-03, he worked in all facets of its program including the training and consulting of athletes, race support and recruiting.

“Both the administration and the student-athletes are excited to have Eli join the staff,” said senior associate athletics director Mary Bowman. “He brings a lot of youth and energy with him that will facilitate the growth and development of our ski program.”

In his past two years at Fischer, Eli has worked hard to increase the market share, connect with athletes, clubs, and coaches at all levels. Most recently, he created a new race program called FSx. “It was a tough decision for me to leave Fischer. I have put a lot of energy into the FSx program and want to see it succeed. Fischer has been really good to me. I think that Fischer is very progressive with the FSx program which is designed to help develop Americas top ski racers. I sincerely wish the best for the Fischer staff and athletes in the future!” said Brown.
