The Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks (NSCF), Alaska, is looking for an
energetic, highly motivated coach to lead a junior race training program
for J3-J2-J1 and OJ age groups beginning May 2006. We are seeking
candidates with collegiate racing experience and coaching skills.
College degree and coaching experience desired.
The successful applicant will fill the dual roles of Head Coach and
Program Director. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
providing individual training programs for all participants in the
program, leading several group training sessions weekly, providing
feedback and evaluation to all group members, providing competition
support at major races.
The Head Coach will work cooperatively with other ski programs in the
community toward the goal of supporting skiers in their quest to reach
the highest possible levels of achievement. The Head Coach will also be
responsible for developing program budgets and for operating the program
within the budget.
Pay will be in the range of $25,000, plus or minus, depending upon
experience. All
race-associated costs (travel/lodging/meals) will be covered by NSCF.
Ski clothing, warm-ups and a parka will be provided. Successful
applicant will be responsible for his or her own transportation and
moving costs to Fairbanks.
NSCF has many assets, which will be helpful in making the program
successful, including: a ski season 6.5-7 months long; excellent dry
land training, especially for activities on trails; Birch Hill
Recreation Area, with approximately 28Km of trails, including about 11Km
of lighted trails and the 10,000 square foot Birch Hill Cross Country
Ski Center Building; excellent in-season grooming and off-season trail
maintenance and improvements; an outstanding race organization with a
full schedule of club and regional events; a great feeder program –
Fairbanks Junior Nordic – with over 250 elementary school skiers; a
large and supportive club membership and skiing public; excellent
coverage of the sport in local media; a comprehensive cross country
infrastructure, both physical and organizational.
