Sweden’s Emilie Ohrstig was sprint World Champion in 2005. She is now retiring at age 28.

– I decided to retire already two years ago, says Ohrstig.
– The reason she choose to continue her carrier after the 2004 season was the desire to race in the 2005 Worlds and the 2006 Olympics. She won gold in the classic sprint in the Oberstdorf Worlds and was suddenly Sweden’s new sporthero.
Ohrstig had however health problems last fall and she ended up as a spectator when Anna Dahlberg and Lina Andersson won gold in the two-person sprint relay in Torino.
Poor results at the Olympics didn’t affect my decision. I had decided two years ago that I was going to participate in on one Worlds and the Olympics. That’s `what I have done, she says.
