The Crested Butte & Gunnison Nordic Team is seeking an experienced, motivated, and charismatic coach to lead its program. In the last 15 years, the Nordic Team has a strong history of meeting the needs of both recreational JR skiers as well as producing numerous national champions and sending athletes to Scando Cup, World JR’s, and World Championships. The Head Coach is responsible for:
-Overseeing 2 asst. coaches and 25 JR athletes, ages 6-19
-Designing and executing year round training program from June 1-April 1st
-Attending Competitions including: RMD JOQ’s, SR & JR Nationals, Spring Series, & Training Camps
-Recruiting new skiers through the Gunnison Valley’s ski for PE program (all elementary kids have skiing as a PE unit)
-Recruiting athletes to ski with the club and attend the Crested Butte Academy
-Work with club board to determine budget and fundraisers
-Host an RMD JOQ race bi-annually

Location
Crested Butte is a picturesque Victorian-era mining town on the western slope of Colorado, located 4 hours west of Denver and 30 miles north of the college town of Gunnison. Home to ~2,000 inhabitants and surrounded by national forest, the town is an adventure sports paradise with world class Nordic, Backcountry, and Alpine skiing as well as endless mountain biking, hiking, paddling and climbing. Crested Butte is known for its scenic beauty (CO wildflower capital) and tight knit community, tucked into a high mountain valley on a pedestrian friendly 8 by 8 blocks.
Nordic Center & Training Resources
The Nordic Team falls under the non-profit umbrella of the Crested Butte Nordic Center. There are over 40KM of groomed trails on three trail systems surrounding town. The club is on snow from Halloween to 4th of July and hosts annual May & June camps. Strength sessions utilize the Gunnison HS and Crested Butte Academy weight rooms. Approximately 50KM of roller skiing is available in Crested Butte & Gunnison. The team van is used to transport skiers for training and racing.
Club Structure
The club’s board of directors works closely with the head coach to outline the program’s needs, fundraise, determine the budget, and hire asst. coaches. The Head Coach is expected to lead by providing direction to the board while accepting their input and oversight.
Skills
The ideal candidate would have the following experience and abilities:
-Competed at the national NCAA or USSA level
-Coached for over 5 years with national caliber skiers
-Experience waxing at national level competitions & difficult conditions
-Worked with a wide range of abilities and ages
-Familiar outlining training program that challenges and enjoyable for JR’s of varying abilities
-Has experience hosting large competitions (200+ athletes, JOQ/USSA/FIS/NCAA level)
-Fundraising by soliciting club sponsors and innovative ideas
-Experience driving a 15 passenger van in winter conditions
Salary: Commensurate with experience
