KHANTY-MANSIYSK, Russia – The 2009/2010 IBU Biathlon World Cup comes to a close this weekend in the West Siberian city of Khanty-Mansiysk. Tim Burke (Lake Placid, NY) will be the sole athlete representing the U.S. in the World Cup final.
Burke looks forward to ending his personal-best season on high note. “It’s the last races of the season so I am ready to go. The track here suits me and the training felt really great,” said Burke.
Winter conditions at the venue will set the stage for an exciting World Cup finale. “It’s perfect right now, cold weather and a fresh snow,” said U.S. Head Coach Per Nilsson. “The waxing will be crucial. The track is slower than in Europe and we need some good wax to have good skis. I am sure Tim will end his season in a good way. In his head he’s already working on getting better in the next season so with his mind being there he should have less pressure and expectations starting here and that should enable him to show his normal strength again.”
Burke will start in the 10km Sprint race on Friday at 9:15am (EST), followed by his last race of the season with Saturday’s Mass Start at 9:15am (EST).
