Start places have been allocated to Right To Play, an athlete-driven international humanitarian organization, in this year's Kangaroo Hoppet (held annually at Falls Creek). Entries are sold at a premium to raise funds for the organization.
Right To Play uses sport and play as a tool for the development of children and youth in the most disadvantaged areas of the world.
Chaired by four time Olympic Gold Medalist in speed skating, Norwegian Johan Olav Koss, Right To Play currently manages 46 programs in 22 countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Right To Play is committed to improving the lives of these children and to strengthening their communities by translating the best practices of sport and play into opportunities to promote development, health and peace.
The Kangaroo Hoppet, which will be held at Falls Creek on 25 August, is the opening event of the annual Worldloppet series of international cross country skiing. This series attracts almost 100,000 skiers annually to events in 14 nations, spanning four continents.
Worldloppet events are held each year in Australia, Japan, Canada, USA, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Estonia, and Australia.
Worldloppet and Right To Play have entered into a collaboration where skiers can participate in Worldloppet races with a Right To Play dedicated starting place and thereby raise money for projects.
