Michigan Tech Marches on Despite No Snow Yet

Houghton, MI – Last Saturday, the Michigan Tech Nordic Skiing teams set out on an epic adventure through the north woods of the Upper Peninsula. The goal was simple, a distance run on the North Country Trail to the raging torrent that is the falls on the Sturgeon River. The peaking fall colors and the scenic Sturgeon River Gorge drew the Huskies more than 30 miles from their home in Houghton, MI, the site of the 2008 U.S. Cross Country National Championships. What they didn’t count on was what made the trip unforgettable. Through heavy downpours the skiers marched on into the dense woods and were ultimately rewarded with scenic vistas and roaring rivers. Even the yoopers heading out to their hunting camps livened the spirits of the merry band of adventurers. The snow may not be falling in the UP yet, but the skiers of Michigan Tech aren’t letting that get them down.
