FIS Tour de Ski: 22 Nations in the 5th Edition

Only 51 days remain until the start of the 5th Viessmann FIS Tour de Ski performance by Craft Sportswear. The preparations for the unique event are at full speed and by the preliminary entry deadline at the end of October, 22 nations have registered for this year’s edition. Besides many traditional Cross-Country nations such as all Nordic and Central European countries, Australia and Japan have also announced their participation in the Tour for the first time. Some 130-140 athletes are expected to take part in the competition series in Germany and Italy. The final entries for the teams are due by 15th December.

Yesterday, Tuesday 9th November, the Tour final host venue Val di Fiemme presented the FIS Tour de Ski 2011, the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 and the Marcialonga 2011 to the media in Milan. The special talk show at RAI television studios was characterized by a relaxed atmosphere and was led by the famous RAI sport journalist Ivana Vaccari.

Among the guests were OC Presidents Pietro De Godenz and Alfredo Weiss, Cross-Country skiers Cristian “Zorro” Zorzi, Guidina Dal Sasso (5th time winner of the Marcialonga), current ski marathon racer Fabio Santus, former Alpine stars Alberto Tomba, Kristian Ghedina and Karen Putzer, and former cyclist Maurizio Fondriest as well as FIS Race Director Cross-Country Jürg Capol, who confirmed his participation in the popular race open to the public up the Final Climb, the so-called “Rampa di Campioni”, on 9th January 2011.
