APU teammates Holly Brooks and Lars Flora maintained the top spots in the overall SuperTour standings, despite skipping the last five races in the Midwest.
Brooks continues to hold a significant margin over another APU skier, Kate Fitzgerald, on the women’s list. Fitzgerald also skipped the recent Midwest swing of the US Continental Cup circuit.
Maria Stuber (CXC), however, not only raced, she raced fast, and has climbed into the third spot overall.
On the men’s side, the standings are much closer. Mike Sinnott (SVSEF) rode strong midwest result up the list, and now sits just 23 points behind Flora. CXC teammates Garrott Kuzzy and Brian Gregg are third and fourth respectively.
The second SuperTour racing period has concluded, and current leaders are awarded start spots for the World Cup periods III and IV, including the Drammen, Norway races and the post World Championships races in Lahti, Finland.
Both Flora and Brooks were named to the US squad for the 2011 World Championships in Oslo, and will likely race the events in Drammen. With FIS now picking up the tab for travel and lodging, the two athletes will save significant funds for their domestic racing efforts.
The SuperTour continues after a week off in Aspen, Colorado with a 5/10K classic and the 21K Owl Creek Chase on the February 12th and 13th.

Although we are a very European sport, it doesn’t give the go ahead to start using European language. Reflexive verbs ftw: “Fitzgerald also did skipped the recent Midwest swing of the US Continental Cup circuit.”

Lar Flora was competing as a guest skier at this past weekend’s Norwegian National Championships. Something far more challenging than our puny SuperTour meets.

I think it’s quite scary/disheartening/humbling to see Lars so far back. Finishing in 64th, almost 5 minutes out in the 15km is a definite head scratcher. In the other race he did better, finishing in 29th, 4 minutess out. Not something to take as a positive going forward and the World Champs only a couple weeks away. Granted there won’t be 100 Norwegians racing in Oslo, but the gap(s) could be bigger there. He’s been by far the best American skier on the NA circuit this year, and if he is that far back, and seeing how much criticizm there is aimed at the Norwegian men’s distance skiers this year, it is a scary proposition to look forward to. Hopefully he just had a super bad weekend and those results aren’t indicative of his current form!
