SIA & NOAA say that a snowy winter is in our future! "La Nina" is certainly a friend of North American Nordic skiers.  During La Nina winters, weather patterns are generally driven by a strong northerly storm track, which drops above average precipitation (ie:  snowfall) with below average temperatures across the norther portion of the US.  This past winter of '10 - '11, the average

The "Point Trail" along the St. Croix River bottoms offers breathtaking scenery and flat terrain for an easy ski. Here in the Midwest, many of our state parks are truly hidden gems that most Nordic skiers aren't aware of.  While many of our State Parks may not be glitzy destinations like some venues, many of them do offer grooming that rivals any trail with nearly 20k of classic ski trails.

The "River Trail" at Wild River State Park is a beautiful classic only trail - ideal for a relaxing stride or speedy double pole - kick (note this image was taken in late March, after the grooming was done for the season)! Like many of Minnesota's State Parks, Wild River State Park has an amazing network of Classic or Skate Ski trails (all of which are hiking trails in the summer).  Wild
