Once again, the Norwegian skiers dominated the J1 10 k classic mass starts at Junior Nationals on Saturday, but the Americans didn’t let their guests take all the podium spots. Keegan Swirbul, of Rocky Mountain, took third overall in the boys race, which was good for the top American spot, and he finished just one second behind Norwegian and second-place finisher Sjur Slettom.
Ben Saxton and Hannah Boyer couldn’t coast to the finish in their wins of the Older Junior classic mass-start races in the 2013 Cross Country Junior Nationals on Saturday. They had fierce competitors on their tales who also happened to be their friends.

Norway continued to bask in golden glory on Thursday in the World Championships women's 4x5 k relay. Marit Bjørgen had ample time to grab a flag from the stands on her way to the finish line; Sweden claimed sliver and Russia took bronze in the penultimate women's event of the week.
Petter Northug, in an impressive rebound from two disappointing races this week at World Championships, finally got the gold he was looking for on Wednesday in the 15 k individual freestyle. The effort took everything he had; he began to collapse before he even crossed the finish line to take over the lead from Johan Olsson. Our photos from the finish and the high point of the course.
