This is the second spring in a row that I’ve had major surgery on both of my legs.  Its not my idea of a good time… in fact, its extremely painful.  It hurts physically.  Moving in the wrong direction and a lightening bolt of pain will shoot up my leg all the way to my ears, I [...]

The Austrian doping scandal is widening, with cyclists, triathletes, and now cross-country skiers implicated - if only by hearsay. Today, three more as-yet unnamed people were arrested under Austrian anti-doping law, and Christian Hoffmann was asked if he had any kind of affiliation with Stefan Matschiner, the coach at the center of the affair:... Hoffmann, who is still active, declared: "I was

One of the best features of the old FasterSkier calendar was that it allowed FasterSkier readers to post their own events.  The new calendar also offers this functionality, and offers some more options.  You can now provide a more detailed description of your event, as well as input more criteria to help people find it. The FasterSkier calendar has been one of the most robust on the web – it is a great resource –...

FasterSkier has launched a new feature – nothing revolutionary, but hopefully something people will find useful.  We have been collecting RSS feeds from cross-country skiing blogs around the web and have compiled them in one location.  You can find the most recent posts listed on the home page in the left column toward the bottom of the page.  You can view all entries by going to

That pretty much sums up how I felt about the 50k in Fairbanks on Sunday. If you haven’t read the FasterSkier race report, you should, it was an exciting day up at the front of both the men’s and women’s races. Maybe the most exciting domestic races of the year. Stinson gives me far more credit than I deserve for being part of the chase group with Kuzzy. We were there, but more like around 15th as opposed to 10th, but hey, it’s good publicity! Anyways, on to the race.

…says ‘December.’  I’m pretty sure the pile of junk that is now up to its bottom has been building since then. It’s time to dig out, catch up and reorganize.  Spring cleaning anyone? After Sunday’s race was in the bag, the horizon just suddenly opened up ahead of my eyes.  It seems like for 3 months you [...]

President Obama Names Cross-Country Skiing New National Pastime

Washington D.C, – In a surprising move, President Obama has named Cross-Country Skiing the new American National Pastime, replacing baseball, which has held the spot for three-quarters of a century. “We are totally blown away,” said Bjorn McEvoy, the director of the organization US Skiing As A National Pastime or USSANP.  “We knew that we would prevail eventually, but were preparing for the long haul.  We really didn’t think we would see this before Mongolia...

Photos of Mt. Redoubt Ash

We have been hearing quite a bit about the Mt. Redoubt eruption that has spewed ash over parts of Alaska.  This has not done good things to the snow pack – Tim Kelley shared some photos.  Since he took these, it has snowed, cleaning up the trails for now – the ash lies in wait, ready to appear at the next thaw.  From a ski racing perspective it was fortunate the Fairbanks and US Distance...

Marostica Subaru Lappe 24 Hour Relay

Since 1997 with the beginning of spring and end of the skiing season the 24 Relay at Lappe has been a test of endurance and speed for both recreational and elite athletes in Thunder Bay. In the 24 hour period from March 21 – 22 several records were set. Kelly Henry of Thunder Bay skied just over  285 km  eclipsing the former 265 km standard set in 2005. In the team event a four man...

The Associated Press reported that the great Gunde Svan has resigned from his position as Manager of the Swedish national Ski Team.  Svan, 47, took the position in late 2007.  He was brought on to repair a rift between the Swedish Federation and several of the top athletes in the country.  The World Cup team was on the brink of falling apart, with top skiers Mathias and Tobias Fredriksson, Bjorn Lind, and Anders Soedergren splitting...
