Looking back on 2015/2016, there were a long list of biathlon results for the U.S. and Canada to be excited about. Here are a few of the best, three of which included medals.
In one tidy article, FasterSkier reveals two awards. First up, the International Skiers of 2016: Martin Johnsrud Sundby and Therese Johaug. International Performances of 2016 goes to Federico Pellegrino's skate sprint streak and Ingvild Flugstad Østberg's blistering 10 k free win at the Ski Tour Canada.
It was a tight race for Canada's Continental Skier of the Year, with Andy Shields edging out Kevin Sandau by a single point in the overall NorAm standings. Dahria Beatty took her second win of the 2016 FS awards after topping both the NorAm overall and sprint standings.
Cami Thompson-Graves and Ruff Patterson, the coaches of the Dartmouth nordic teams, are FasterSkier's Coaches of the Year. Dartmouth ended UVM's nearly four-year college win streak in the East, and eight alums raced in nordic World Cup competition this season, including three who stood on podiums.
Canada had several breakthrough skiers of 2016, but FS had to decide on just a few. The awards go to two athletes who scored their first World Cup points, and honorable mentions to two more breakout skiers at the Ski Tour Canada.
This year's nordic-combined award winners are Bryan Fletcher, who led the U.S. in 20th overall on the World Cup, and U.S. development-team member Jasper Good, who notched 11th and 12th at Junior World Championships in Romania.
Landing 14th and 15th in biathlon's World Cup Total Score, Americans Susan Dunklee and Tim Burke are FasterSkier's 2016 Biathletes of the Year. Dunklee placed second in the Presque Isle World Cup sprint on home soil, while each also collected two sixth-place finishes this season.
