The "Jacked Up Old Man" won his third Climb to the Castle up Whiteface Mountain on the race's 10th anniversary, edging Russell Currier by eight seconds, and a 17-year-old CSU skier held off her twin sister and an SMS junior in the women's race.
Construction is underway on the eight-mile Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway, the upper five miles of which the U.S. Ski Team, US Biathlon and NYSEF use for the annual Climb to the Castle rollerski race, set for Sept. 6.
The third chapter in 'Part of the Team: The Impact of Female Coaches in the U.S.' takes a look at female coaches who work with U18 and U16 athletes, the kids who are in the process of choosing nordic skiing over other sports. These coaches are involved with juniors at a critical point in their development, and many discuss how they mentor their skiers and why they've stuck with that level.
