Loomis, Mizikowski Win North American Vasa

Scott Loomis got his first marathon victory of the year in the 27th Annual Subaru North American Vasa in Michigan on Saturday. Loomis and Factory Teammate Nathan Schultz broke trail in the four inches of new snow for most of the race, with Loomis taking the 50K freestyle victory by five seconds in a sprint. Third was Adam Swank, two minutes back. Loomis was third in the Lake Placid Loppet and second in the Boulder Mountain Tour before taking the final step up the podium on Saturday.

In the women's 50K, Deborah Mizikowski was the winner by 3:20. Hometown skiers Laura Rylands and Debbie Wetphal were second and third.

In the 50K classic, winners were Randal Bladel and Laura Waldo.

Amazingly, both Schultz and Loomis headed to Mora, Minnesota immediately after the race, in order to do Sunday's <Mora Vasaloppet marathon, thus completing the Double Vasa. Schultz was 3rd in the Vasaloppet, while Loomis was 6th.
