AND FIELD COACH

SUMMARY:
Oversee the direction of the varsity Cross Country/Nordic Ski programs and assist track and field coach
with distance events at the NCAA Division II level. Responsible for recruitment, scheduling, practice/event preparation,
budget management, fund raising and promotion. Assist the Director in a leadership role to enhance the internal and
external visibility and recognition of the Michigan Tech Cross Country and Nordic Ski programs. Work with Auxiliary
Services to maintain the Nordic Ski trails.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plan, organize and administer the university's varsity Cross Country/Nordic Ski programs.
Assist track and field coach with distance events.
Direct the recruitment of student athletes on a regional and national level.
Develop and implement practice sessions and determine needs for individual and team improvement.
Evaluate MTU and opposition team capabilities to determine race strategy and manage/prepare team for competition;
determine strategy during events.
Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the university and teams to alumni, and
campus and off campus groups.
Actively participate in fund raising activities.
Provide necessary resources to monitor and promote the academic success of student athletes.
Plan, develop, and administer budgets and budget reports.
Work with Auxiliary Services personnel to maintain the Nordic Ski trails.
Represent and act on behalf of the university.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative supervision is exercised over support staff and student assistants. Carries out supervisory
responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable
knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Experience participating in and/or coaching cross country/nordic skiing at the college level.
Current or recent coaching experience.
Experience using personal computers and basic software packages.
DESIRABLE:
Master’s degree.
Athletic recruiting experience.
Head coaching experience.

Superior communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.
Superior organizational and administrative skills.
