. During his skiing days, Landstedt was a top national skier and placed in the top-10 in the U.S. National Championships eight times between 1991-93. Landstedt was one of the top collegiate skiers in the nation while competing at the University of New Mexico, earning All-American status after he finished fourth in the NCAA Championships in 1987.</p>

West Yellowstone (great early season skiing, good coffee, nice little town)<b><br />

Dryland- Sandia Peak foothills or the Sand Hills South of ABQ –<br />

<p> <b>Why do you enjoy being a ski coach? What part of being a ski coach don't<br />
you enjoy?</b><br />
Great Life style, meeting lots of good people, very rewarding to see the<br />
results from hard work in the performance and life choices of my athletes, Keeps<br />
me in decent shape.<br />
Dont't enjoy- All the paperwork, the constant and never ending recruiting, NCAA<br />
rules, Admission policy,</p>
<p> <b> If you weren't a ski coach, what would you rather be doing?</b><br />
Traveling, Hiking, Fishing, relaxing, but if you mean I had to make a living,<br />
I can't see a better way of doing it.</p>
<p> <b> What are the five main philosophies you coach by?</b><br />
If you are happy where you are, you will be happy anywhere.<br />
If you want to succeed, it is all up to you. It does not matter where you live<br />
or what the conditions are.<br />
To be a good ahtlete you need to plan your life, think of what you are doing,<br />
set your priorities, work on your weakness, but when you race, it is better<br />
not to think too much.<br />
Life is all about priorities. No excuses.<br />
When the going get tough, the tough get going</p>
<p><b>What do you spend most time with when you are on the road at races or training<br />
camps?</b><br />
On the road – Easy one, driving the van<br />
After we get there – waxing, testing, planing the race days or training, video<br />
analysis, talking to athletes </p>
<p><b>What were your best or most memorable races (for your athletes) – last season<br />
or earlier?</b><br />
Best races – 2003 NCAA's first day. Men – First & sixth Women – 5th,6th,<br />
15th<br />
WSC meet – Men 1st,6th, 8th Women – 2,3,4 Both days.<br />
Us Nationals – 15 km Women 3rd and 4th<br />
Earlier – 2000 NCAA's Kristina Strandberg took the lead in the last<br />
downhill to the finish, at Soldier Hollow, to win the 15 km mass start event.<br />
<b><br />
How do you deal with bad races?</b><br />
Analyze what went wrong and try to find things that we can do different or bettter. <br />
Sometimes there is nothing you can do and the best is to forget about it and<br />
move on. Try to talk to the athletes and make them learn from the event<br />
and get something possitive from it.</p>
<p><b>What are your coaching goals for the upcoming season?</b><br />
To help my athletes improve. Work hard with techinque and each athletes<br />
individual weakness. My goal as a coach is to help my athletes perform<br />
as good as they possibly can at the right time, and to reach their long term<br />
goals, so that they are excited to continue to improve. Have lots of fun.</p>
<p> <b> How do you feel about the changes in the international race formats over<br />
the past few years (sprint racing, mass starts, skiathalon/duathalon)?</b><br />
I am old fashiened and hate to see most of the individual start races disappear. <br />
I also realize that skiing is changing and we have to change with it. <br />
Sprinting is fun and brings more athletes and money to the sport. The<br />
duathlon is better now when they made it a longer event.</p>
<p> <b> What changes will you be making to your athletes’ training plan for<br />
this year?</b><br />
Even more upper body core strength. Concentrate on more speed. Improve<br />
technique. Try to make them mentally tougher and not to let insignificant details<br />
or events affect their preparations.<br />
<b><br />
Do you have a favorite interval or hard workout?</b><br />
Sand hills – Running/bounding with poles 30 min Natural Interval session. </p>
<p> Rollerskiing up-hill Interval session staggered 2+2+3+3+4+4+5+4+3 Min Intervals. </p>
<p> Double poling speed intervals 30sec, 1 min, 2 min total of 10-15 Intervals. </p>
<p> Running Frankies (after Frank Shorter's favorite work-out) 12*400 meter with<br />
200 meter jog in between each interval.</p>
