On Thursday November 20, Reuters reported that Finland's head coach from 2001 was charged today with smuggling illegal performance-enhancing drugs into Finland. Kari-Pekka Kyroe was charged with bringing the drugs into the country for use during the 2001 World Championships in Lahti, as well as in 1999 and 2000.

The infamous Lahti six (including Harri Kirvesniemi and Olympic champion Mika Myllyla) were banned from skiing for two years because of the hydroxyethyl (HES) found in their blood samples at the Championships. HES is a plasma-expanding compound which can be used to mask EPO.

Myllya is currently trying to make a comeback.
