Race Update 6 – Thursday, April 1 10PM

After a short but exciting Fischer Mountaintop Hill Climb, CISS takes a day
off in preparation for the final weekend of the series. Andrew Johnson
continued his dominance today beating Ivan Babikov by a toe in a photo
finish to the 3km Fischer Mountaintop Hill Climb up Blue Ridge Road.
Johnson extended his win tally to 4 of 5 events and cemented his grasp on
all three of the leader's jerseys. Women's overall leader Rebecca Dussault
lost some of her time cushion to teammate Katrin Smigun, who broke open the
women's field and strided to the Hill Climb victory under brilliant blue
skies and rarified air.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
With the latest weather wreaking havoc on the Devil's Thumb race course, all
the remaining races will be run at Snow Mountain Ranch with 9AM start times.
The weather is unsettled with snow reports varying wildly as to what the
weather holds for this weekend. If we get some snow, this will open up a
lot of terrain that we would prefer to use. At this point, however,
Saturday's (4/3) Mass start skate race will be shortened to 8km for women,
12km for men and will be run on Blue Ridge Loop (Plan A). If we get a
little snow, we will be able to use the same course that was used for the
Pursuit, but backwards (Plan B). The Plan B course is Blue Ridge, Lower
Young, Upper Young and Eagle Valley.

If Plan B can be put into effect, the race start will be postponed to 10AM.
This will be announced by 6AM on the web site and on the phone message at
970.887.2152×4170. If there is no announcement, the race will go ahead as
planned at 9AM on the Plan A course.

Notes about the Plan A course:
Plan A course is approximately 4km up Blue Ridge Road. This is just above
where the Hill Climb ended. Yes, that is correct, above where the Hill
Climb ended.
Parking will be limited near the Nordic Barn and carpooling is encouraged.
Please park as directed by marshals and do not block any roads or attempt to
drive on muddy tracks.
Bathrooms will not be available at the race start. Toilets are available at
the Nordic Barn on the way to the base of the course.
Bib pickup and citizen registration will be available from 7 to 8:15am at
the Nordic Barn.
The loop is 4km
Please be especially cautious going up and down Blue Ridge. There will be
large amounts of traffic going both ways. Please ski slowly, stay to the
right and yield to oncoming traffic.
Shuttles will be limited and athletes are encouraged to ski up to the start
as a warm up.
Gear shuttles:
Coaches equipment and Stadium setup from 6-7am.
Volunteers 7-7:45a
Spectators 7:30-8:30a
The sprint relay will be run with teams of 2 on a course near Gaskill and
Columbine Point. Details will be available at the coaches meeting on
Saturday at 5PM at Race HQ, the Leggett Building, Snow Mountain Ranch.
The intense competition for the Red Fun Leader's jersey continues Thursday
night as Swix and the Colorado Biathlon club host a post-hill climb bash
that has been moved to The Pub in downtown Winter Park. Odells Brewery will
once again be providing beer while it lasts and a live band of skiers will
be playing. The final awards banquet will be hosted by Snow Mountain Ranch
at the Legget Center, 6PM Saturday, April 3.
The schedule for the rest of the week has been updated.
