A crash with a sheep could have wrecked the season for Norwegian skier Krister Trondsen who was selected to race the upcoming sprint World Cup races in Düsseldorf the day before the accident.

Trondsen was rollerskiing down a very steep hill during a district team training camp last weekend. Trondsen admits that the hill was too steep and therefore too fast for safe rollerskiing and hitting the sheep was dangerous and irresponsible.

– I reached a speed of roughly 60-kilometer per hour and panicked when I saw three sheep in the middle of the hill. It was nothing I could do and my right knee hit one of the sheep, says Trondsen

It was a hard crash and Trondsen was sent to the hospital for a check-up. Nothing was broken, but some deep cuts and scratches “all over†will prevent normal training for about a week. Trondsen admits that he should have taken his rollerskis off and walked down the hill.

– It was crazy and idiotic to ski down this hill. It could have ended much worse.

Trondsen has been selected to race the first World Cup sprint races in Düsseldorf October 23 and 24. More serious injuries could have ruined a great opportunity for a good start of the season.

 – It’s a great opportunity to race the first World Cup races. I have trained well this summer and I’m feeling that I’m on track. I’m banged up but should be fine soon, said Trondsen.

What about the sheep?

– I don’t know. It ran into the forest.
