Swedish SkidSport.com reports that the Swedish Vasaloppet week is on track toward new participation record for the upcoming season. 28,000 skiers have already entered. The old record of 47, 500 was set last season.

– We can end up with 50,000 and a new participation record if this positive trend continues, says Vasaloppet's general secretary, Rolf Hammar.

Vasaloppet is already the World’s biggest cross country ski race but the dream of the challenge and adventure of completing one of the races during the Vasaloppet is growing in both Sweden and abroad is just increasing.

The races take place between February 25 and March 3, 2005 in the towns of Mora and Salen

– It’s ski fever. People’s interest and attitude for health and exercise is growing and the Vasaloppet week has become a natural goal for many, says Rolf Hammer.

The 90-kilometer main race was completely booked already in May but there are still openings in the other options to “race your heart out” in the Women’s Only Race, the Relay Vasa, The Short Race, The Half Vasa and Open Track.
