Four Years Without Outside Competition Doping Tests For World Championship Winner
Norwegian newspaper VG reports that Martin Koukal (25), of the Czech Republic who sensationally won the 50-kilometer skate race at the 2003 Worlds has not been doping- tested outside competition for more than four years.
It was Koukal himself who revealed this lack of follow up from the anti-doping sector in his own country in a meeting among the racers in Pragelato this spring.

– It shows that the Czech Republic’s anti-doping bureau is not working properly. We have in FIS not previously known about such cases, and it’s of course frightening to hear, admits FIS secretary General Sarah Lewis.

– We can only apologize for such a lack of follow up on behalf of FIS, WADA and this particular nation’s responsible, concluded Lewis.

Provoked

– We have really worked hard to get rid of doping following the black days of the 2001 Worlds in Lahti. We are constantly learning from hearing this type of information. I can promise that we are improving every single day, said Lewis.

Norwegian men’s national team coach Krister Soregard became very irritated and provoked when he heard Koukal telling about the lack of doping follow-up in the Czech Republic.

Soregard has at the same time welcomed doping-hunters at his camps three times during the last three month. First in Halden, Norway, then in Stelvio, Italy and finally in Val Senales.
