John Aalberg and Torbjorn Karlsen are offering an Internet based coaching service called Personal Coaching Service – or click on www.torbjornsport.com/tbksports/personalcoaching.html
Frequent questions about this program include:
– what are the coaches’ coaching and racing background
– does every individual that sign up get a personal program or does everyone get the same program
– which age and level is this for
– do we use a “blueprint” program that remains the same every year
– what about feedback
– can you meet with us to get feedback on technique and training execution.
well qualified to coach cross country skiers.</p>
<p><B>The athletes – Who is this for?</B><br />
We have skiers of all ages (18 to 70) and abilities subscribing to our Coaching service, including Olympic hopefuls, good masters and skiers just starting up with racing. We are trying to give each individual a program that fit his/her background, time available for training and realistic ambitions. We understand the need for specific racing goal for young skiers and the need for simply being fitter than ever and keep up with or beat aging for older skiers. Racing is the main goal for young skiers while racing is used as a tool to be the fittest you can be with the time available for older skiers. Skiing fast or faster is therefore a goal, but the overall goal is even more!</p>
<p><B>The Program</B><br />
The program is individualized and not a blue print. We make different program for different level athletes every month. The program for the upcoming month is sent out by email a few days before the start of the month. Specific and detailed suggestion and explanation for every daily session is outlined. We also outline simple goals and the theory behind the training for each month.<br />
Feedback from many of our athletes this year includes: I love that I don’t have to think, it’s all there on page #2!<br />
Our programs are updated every year based upon feedback from athletes, what we have learned, the latest in sport science and training theory. We have very good contacts Worldwide and want our athletes to be a part of the latest and best training concepts. We have the background to evaluate what should be included in a good program and what shouldn’t. Our goal is to focus on the most essential and what will give the most progress. Our philosophy is based upon: It’s not the one who trains the most or hardest that makes the most progress – it’s the ones that train the smartest and best. That’s what we are helping our athletes achieve. A certain level of dedication to success is a must at any level. </p>
<p><B>Feedback and camps</B><br />
We try to answer email questions from our athletes to our best ability and are encouraging them to possibly make it to one of our three yearly training camps held in Park City, Utah (June, September and December). It’s clearly making the coaching easier when we have seen “our skiers” at a camp and they have got a chance to see and try every training method in practical ways and with our guidance and feedback.<br />

Some athletes are making arrangement to individually spend time training with us.
When should you sign up?
We prefer that athletes sign up during the summer month and the ideal start is May 1, to get the maximum benefits from gradually building up the training. It’s however fully possible to start up at any time. Starting up now will give you training programs for the race season, but without the same base and background as those who signed up this spring or last season will have. Signing up now will give you a good start for the 2005-2006 season as well. The key is to have the goal of “getting fitter than ever”.
