A Thrilling Finish at La Sgambeda

It is a busy week for racing in Italy. They have World Cup races on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. And on top of that, the FIS Marathon World Cup started with La Sgambeda in Italy last Sunday.

The race was dominated by Italians. In an unbelievable finish, the top 19 skiers were separated by only 9 – yes NINE -seconds! Great winter weather made for very good skiing. 1200 skiers from 33 nations participated. The racers skied two 21-kilometer loops.

Giantoni Zanetel won the men’s race ahead of Roberto DeZolt and Ivan Margaroli, all from Italy. The women’s race was won by Lara Peyrot ahead of Christina Paluselli and Sofia Lind. Lars Flora, USA was 17th. he skied the whole race right near the front and finished only 8 seconds behind the winner.
