On the phone from Oberstdorf: Fasterskier.com spoke with Canadian Beckie Scott right after the women's 7.5km + 7.5km pursuit race, where she finished fourth.
Beckie In the Starting Gate At Soldier Hollow Earlier This Season
I was in third place at times, dropped back to 6 or 7th place and fought back. I was working a lot with Paruzzi, [top Italian racer] but we just couldn’t keep up with [Kristin] Steira when she passed us. I was in 5th place with 800 meters to go and didn’t want it to come down to a sprint for fourth. I skied as hard as I could up the last hill and dropped Paruzzi. I felt that I skied a very good race and gave it all. I’m very happy with my race and am looking forward to the sprint on Tuesday.
Had you planned to race this race all along?
Not really, but Justin [husband], my coaches and my parents all wanted me to race. I was just getting over a cold before the first race, the 10-kilometer skate race where I placed 14th and was convinced by everyone that I could do better than that. Sometimes it takes one race after you have been sick to ski your best. My mother’s comment that she hadn’t come all the way to Germany to see me not race weighed in heavy too!
